Introduction

The section 38-X of the Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972 (WLP Amendment Act, No. 39 of 2006) states that the State Government shall establish a Tiger Conservation Foundation for Tiger Reserves within the state in order to facilitate and support their management for conservation of tiger and biodiversity and, to take initiatives in Eco-development by involvement of people in such development process.  In pursuance to this amendment, the Bandipur Tiger Reserve (Bandipur National Park) hereby proposes to constitute a foundation named ‘Bandipur Tiger Conservation Foundation’.

Bandipur Tiger Conservation Foundation has been registered on 23-01-2008 under Karnataka Registration Act 1960 vide GO No. FEE 104/FWL/07 dated 13-02-07.

Aims and Objectives of the Foundation

The main aim of the Foundation shall be to facilitate and support the tiger reserve management for conservation of tiger and biodiversity, through multi-stakeholder participation as per approved management plans, and to support similar initiatives in adjoining landscapes, consistent with the national and state legislations.  In pursuance of the said objectives, the functions of the Foundation has to be undertaken through the implementing agency and its staff and or sponsored/supported by it or through other institutions, agencies or individuals collaborated by the implementing agency.

To achieve this main aim, the Foundation shall have the following objectives:

a) To facilitate ecological, economic, social and cultural development in the tiger reserve and adjoining landscape.

b) To provide support to safeguard the natural environment in the tiger reserve and relevant places.

c) To facilitate the creation of, and or maintenance of such assets as felt necessary for fulfilling the above said objectives.

d) To solicit technical, financial, social and other support required for the activities of the Foundation for achieving the above said objectives from different sources permitted by law.

e) To support eco-tourism, eco-development, research, environmental education, training, management and advisory aspects in the above and related fields to support the implementing agency.

f) Anything incidental or ancillary to the above for furthering the above said objectives.
